My daughter is an Oncologist and cancer researcher at MD Anderson. She has patients from all over the world desperately trying to be treated there. We lead the world in research, it is very expensive ro develop treatments and prescription drugs. Also, in NO way would I ever share a room or bathroom with another patient.

It is OK to wear a hat indoors in the USA. It used to be bad manners to wear a hat indoors here, but nowadays that really only applies in `respectable` surroundings.

I went to visit my best friend in Arizona about 15 years back, he lived in the USA for like 20 years & he took me to a drive-thru ATM. He was, "look, I can pay these cheques in & I get a receipt with an image of the cheques I just paid in, how cool is that?" I said, "cheques? WTF? I last wrote a cheque in 1997". I had a guy fit a new boiler in my house & he asked for payment & gave me his bank card, so I just transferred the money to his account & it showed on his banking app in a few seconds. He walked off & it was done. Easy peasy.

I'm an American from Boston (I know, that's a double whammy)... I am a very cautious, safe, and considerate driver. If I see that someone needs to turn at an intersection and no one is letting them in, I will stop and flash my lights so they can turn. That is good "car"ma for me and oftentimes I will be repaid in kind when I need to turn at an intersection. Also, in a merge or on-ramp / off-ramp situation in high traffic, I will always let people in if I'm on the highway or I will slowly merge in with a turn signal to get onto the highway, saying to myself "like a zipper people, like a zipper"! I used to love driving, but now people are usually so angry or in a hurry that it's not a joy like it used to be. But, it's a necessary evil and you gotta do what you gotta do. 🚗

I just wish that anyone who can afford it needs to pay a bigger contribution because it seems like pregnant women and many others, are exploiting our NHS system and we could lose it because of that. That’s unfair especially since if reversed we would be booted out very sharpish. On the other hand I would happily help a person in need by paying more NI. The lump sum as far as I know is £500 per annum. Childbirth costs £7000 U.K. and up to $37,000 US. It’s cheaper. No wonder the NHS is in a state. I’m so conflicted. I hope your pregnancy went beautifully and you bore a healthy Bonnie baby.

Britishism coming up. Q What is the definition of a bore ? A Somebody, when you ask them how they are, they tell you (all about it) In other words being asked how you are, or similar is a simple hello, not an invitation to tell them about your life/problems. So the response is, "fine thanks, and you ?" or similar In the event someone you know very well is referring to a specific thing going on in your life they will make it obvious it is more than a simple greeting

The difference I think is that Brits generally think of the short term benefits i.e taking guns away saves lives. Which is true. Whereas in the US, people seem to think more long-term i.e guns defend against tyranny. As a Brit, I support gun ownership rights. Freedom always cost lives. I'm loving these comparison videos

So in the US, you'll get seen if you show up to a hospital with life threatening injuries, but thats it? So if you go there with a broken leg, and you don't have insurance, then they'll refuse to help? In the UK, you'd still get treated

The biggest issue for me, under the American system is not being able to afford my 3K deductible. I pay $160 a month for health coverage but also have to satisfy the deductible before everything is paid 100% and 3K is just too high so I put off needed health care until it becomes a crisis. That's really the crux of the problem for lots of Americans.

  • @barbaramatthews4735

I'm American and I see the problem with some Americans being more sensitive and the era of extreme political correctness. I'm getting older and can see the shift. It used to be that off color humor was more acceptable. People would snickercat the occasional inappropriate joke, because the absurdity and inappropriatenes made it funny. I am a Navy veteran and worked in health care. Needless to say at times the job was stressful and taxing. We won't tell the same macab jokes to the patients as we did to each other. We were expected to be professional. Sometimes to keep the serious nature from making us crazy, we mad jokes with each other. It was situational though. I recently went through cancer and survived. I had a lot of surgery during the time and had things removed. When i spoke to onevof the doctors i told him "When I signed up to be an organ donor, I thought you guys would wait." He got a good laugh. It made me feel better because the heaviness of a cancer diagnosis is bad enough. I think Americans get it. Not all Americans are super sensitive, but the ones that are complain loudly. Now most people have become too afraid to offend. Its a cultural shift. 20-30 years ago humor was more trasy and more funny.
